THE GOLDEN STATE MUTUAL LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY AFRICAN-AMERICAN ART COLLECTION

One of the largest and oldest African-American-owned insurance companies in the U.S. was in the vanguard in its support of the African-American fine art community. Starting in the 1950s, Golden State Mutual bought significant paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and mixed-media works by major African-American artists, including many from California, and displayed them in their offices. They will use part of the proceeds from the sale of these works to fund new acquisitions.

Features Works by John Biggers, Elizabeth Catlett, Jacob Lawrence, Hughie Lee-Smith, Henry Ossawa Tanner, Charles White, and many influential California African-American Artists.
